Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take honors classes in SLAM?

Yes.  There are honors sections for all SLAM English and SLAM social studies classes, which include World History, U.S. History, Government, and Economics.

Will I be able to go to college if I am in SLAM?

Of course!  Most SLAM students go to college after high school.  Our students attend California State University campuses, University of California campuses, private colleges, and community colleges.  SLAM does not hurt your chances to go to college; in fact, having a program like SLAM on your college application makes you stand out and may therefore provide you with an advantage.

I applied to SLAM, but I did not get called for an interview.  What should I do?

We scrutinize every application and some applicants are accepted based on that alone. However, if you did not receive a pass for an interview it may be that your application didn't present you as a strong candidate for SLAM.  However, on rare occasions mistakes are made (passes or paperwork getting lost, for example). If you do not receive a notification of acceptance or a pass for an interview, but you feel strongly about being in SLAM and want to find out why you were not contacted, please email mrsfarley@mac.com or come to room 615 to find out more information.

What if I am accepted into SLAM but decide that it's not for me?

Before applying to SLAM, you should consider carefully whether the program would be a good fit for you.  You should have an interest in art and creativity, be detail-oriented, have patience, and be able to work well with other people. If you are accepted, you are making a committment to the program, so if you have a change of heart, you should let us know as soon as possible but definitely before the new school year begins. However, after you finish your sophomore year in SLAM, you do have the option of leaving the program.
